Choosing Between Refinishing and Refacing? What's the Difference?

Whether your cabinets are damaged, worn or outdated, Custom Kitchen Refacing and refinishing can improve their appearance. In addition, they do not produce identical results.

Refinishing cabinets

Kitchen cabinets are disassembled, the existing paint or stain is removed, and new paint or stain is applied in the same or different color scheme by a do-it-yourselfer, carpentry or cabinet company crew. The wood door style remains the same when you refinish it, but the finish is different.

The following are reasons why Kitchen Magic does not recommend refinishing cabinets:

When exposed to heat and moisture, refinished cabinet surfaces usually chip or scratch easily and discolor or crack within a few weeks.

It is typical for refinishing processes to damage wood surfaces. In addition to removing a thin layer of wood, stripping and sanding soften the wood. Repeated refinishing can dimple or warp the wood over time.

Using toxic chemicals during refinishing is necessary, and you can also Buy Kitchen Sinks afterward.

A damaged section does not require refacing all the cabinets again. It is often possible for a cabinet renovator to remove and replace the damaged area without leaving any signs of repair.

Rarely does it take more than three to five days to reface a room? It may be necessary to take extra time if severe damage has been done to one or more areas or additional cabinets need to be installed.

Is it a refinish or a reface?

After knowing the differences between refinishing and refacing, you might wonder, "What method will you use for your next kitchen remodeling project?" To maximize your investment, schedule a consultation with a Kitchen Magic expert.
